Upon meeting Ted, one is struck by his easygoing demeanor, sense of humor, and unwavering passion for coffee.
Ted's preference for washed coffee stems from its delightful blend of acidity and sweetness, reminiscent of the flavors of life itself. Drawing inspiration from the Cantonese language, Ted cleverly plays on the phonetic similarity between "the" and "great" to convey his vision for coffee – a conduit for joy, connection, relaxation, and savoring the moment. For Ted, coffee acts as a bridge, spreading positivity and stories while bringing happiness to those who indulge. His ultimate goal is to ensure that everyone can experience the pleasure of coffee to the fullest.
Transitioning from a conventional 9-to-5 office job, Ted embarked on his coffee journey following a serendipitous visit to a local café during a work break. Despite initial skepticism from his family, he followed his heart and dove headfirst into the world of coffee. Starting from the ground up in a chain coffee shop, Ted honed his craft by mastering every aspect of the trade, eventually co-founding Johandy in 2018 – a pioneering specialty coffee establishment in Shenzhen. With a keen eye for quality, Ted sought to elevate his skills through formal training, including completing SCA Brewing courses and participating in specialized coffee classes.
Ted's passion for specialty coffee was further fueled during a trip to Kenya, where he discovered the artistry behind the local coffee culture. Known for his tireless dedication, Ted once served an impressive 57 hand-poured filter coffees in a single day, a feat that left him both exhausted and gratified by the smiles his creations brought to customers' faces.
With over 11 years of experience in the industry, Ted's unwavering commitment to the craft continues to inspire all who cross paths with him. His enduring passion for coffee and penchant for communication hint at a potential future as a football agent, reflecting his love for the sport and desire to connect with others.
Ted's decision to remain in Shenzhen is driven by the city's dynamic atmosphere, which fosters inclusivity and encourages individuals to pursue their aspirations.
